Starting Monday collectors of vintage computers can bid on Christie’s “First Bytes” sale, which includes all manner of antiquated computing devices, including the original 1976 Apple computer: Steve “Woz” Wozniak’s Apple-1 (pictured). The pre-iMac Apple model comes with a $300,000-500,000 pre-sale estimate, and has been consigned by Ted Perry, who worked for the San Juan Unified School District in 1977 when he met Wozniak.

Perry received the first microcomputer grant under Title IV-C for K-12 schools, and when looking for a computer company to help develop his program met Wozniak, who was very supportive. Through their collaboration more than 3,000 school districts around the country got their first-ever computers (the Apple-2), and Perry became a lifetime Apple customer and collector.

“Apple cares about education, and as Woz supported education directly from the beginning by actively providing any and all information we needed for the project, I started collecting Apple products,” Perry said in a statement. “As I found the Apple-1, I was delighted to add it to my collection.”

Other highlights of the sale, which runs June 24-July 9, include the see-through Translucent Mac SE from 1987-90 and the company’s first stab at a laptop-like mobile computer, the Prototype Macintosh Portable PC from 1989. Meanwhile the Apple-1 will be on view June 24-27 at the Computer History Museum in Silicon Valley.
