The Arab American National Museum in the Detroit suburb of Dearborn has received accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums, the Associated Press reports. The institution, which was founded in 2005, has been pursuing AAM accreditation since 2007. The process, which typically takes multiple years, involves at least of year of self-study and a visit from peer reviewers.
The AANM becomes one of 1,005 museums in the U.S. that are accredited by the Alliance — roughly six percent of the country’s 17,500 or so museums. Of those 1,005, 25 are in Michigan.
