LONDON.- On the 19th March 2014, Auction My Stuff will present The Marlene Dietrich Sale which will see a collection of totally unique items from this historical and cinematic icon become available for public sale for the first time.

Coinciding with the launch of this new online auction platform, the sale will include 250+ lots sold by three grandchildren of Marlene Dietrich. These include one of her famous tuxedos, an intimate letter between her and Ernest Hemingway and the plaque from her Queens Theatre dressing room.

Marlene Dietrich was one of Hollywood’s leading ladies during the 1930 – 40’s. Known for her liberal attitudes to sexuality, Marlene was an open bisexual and notorious for her promiscuous behavior which included relationships with John F. Kennedy and John Wayne. An empress of glamour, allure, and mystique, she starred in iconic and sometimes controversial films such as 'Song of Songs' and 'The Devil is a Woman'.

Marlene Dietrich is an icon for the 21st century as much as she was in the 20th century. Her individuality influenced many of the stars of today and the trends of the current generation. She was the first woman to really bring trousers to the world of female fashion and of course was famous for her sharply tailored tuxedos.

This sale includes one of her famous Blue and Black Double Breasted Tuxedos that she wore throughout her Las Vegas years. Marlene became renowned throughout her career as a person who pursued what she desired, regardless of gender, and the tuxedo provides an outstanding testimony to Marlene’s provocative individuality on and off the stage.

Another key item included within the sale is one of the first Ernest Hemingway letters to Marlene Dietrich to become available at public auction. Marlene and Hemingway first met in 1934 and their friendship lasted until he committed suicide in 1961. Although their ‘love affair’ was never consummated they corresponded through a series of at least 30 flirty letters and telegrams over the years which includes this particular letter to the Hollywood star dated August 28, 1955. Beginning affectionately with ‘Dearest Kraut’ the innuendo-filled letter holds a wealth of promiscuous and proactive imagery.

Marlene’s grandson J. David Riva commented; “Michael, John-Paul and I decided early in 2012 to hold a auction. For us, the memory of our grandmother has always been powerful and enduring, and while we have enjoyed having these mementos we felt it was time to let them go to people that would appreciate them more. Out of all the things made available to the public, some of these are the most utilitarian, simple and affordable. If you want to eat your soft-boiled egg from an egg cup from Marlene’s table, now’s your chance”.

Auction My Stuff is a new online auction platform provided by online valuation service Value My Stuff which allows customers to put their items up for auction, once valued, in an eBay style marketplace where all items are vetted by experts and where market value is dictated not only by demand, but actual worth.

Auction My Stuff Curator, Megan Mulrooney said of the sale; “The many varied and special items in this auction represent some of the most personal and intimate keepsakes of Marlene by members of her family. Many are in themselves windows into her life and personality, and her generosity to her family made it possible for several pieces to survive the test of time. Marlene’s love of cooking, art, literature and democracy are all represented in this fantastic auction rife with Hollywood cinematic history and drama”.

Online bidding will be available from Wednesday, March 19th 2014 to Sunday, April 6th 2014 at www.auctionmystuff.com
