LONDON.- January 2015 sees Jacky Klein starting as Executive Editor for Tate Publishing. Her role will be to strategically lead and commission Tate's book publishing programme, including exhibition catalogues and exhibition-related books, a growing list of standalone art books, and Tate's award-winning children's books.

Klein comes to Tate from Phaidon Press, where she worked as Commissioning Editor, and Thames & Hudson, where for six years she directed and commissioned the programme of art books, overseeing art history and contemporary books, artists’ monographs, books for students and professionals, and the long-standing World of Art series. Highlights include monographs on artists Cornelia Parker, Martin Creed and Mark Wallinger; Medieval Modern by Alexander Nagel (shortlisted for the Art Book Prize 2014 and the Apollo Book of the Year 2013); and 100 Painters of Tomorrow, an online crowd-sourced project that has garnered worldwide acclaim.

After gaining a first class History degree at Oxford University, Klein studied for her Masters in Art History at the Courtauld Institute of Art, London. She began her career at Tate and the Barbican Art Gallery, later working as Assistant Curator at the Courtauld Gallery and, from 2004 to 2008, as Exhibitions Curator at the Hayward Gallery. Her own books include a major monograph on Turner Prize-winning artist Grayson Perry and a guide to contemporary art for children, published by the Museum of Modern Art, New York. A regular lecturer on modern and contemporary art, she also presents short films for the Art Fund and is a Trustee of a number of arts and culture organisations, including Culture24 and the UK Association of Art Historians.

Jacky Klein says: ‘I am thrilled to be coming back to Tate as Executive Editor at a buoyant and dynamic time for the institution, with a vibrant programme of exhibitions and displays across the four galleries and the opening next year of the expanded Tate Modern. I look forward greatly to developing Tate’s art publications – both those connected to exhibitions and collections and for the wider book trade – and to building on the successes of a lively and creative programme, powered by Tate’s stellar relationship with artists, writers and designers.’

John Stachiewicz, Publishing and Commercial Director, says: ‘Tate’s book publishing programme goes from strength to strength, and I’m delighted to welcome Jacky, whose arrival will enable us further to develop an already impressive list. Her unique experience, spanning both the curatorial and publishing worlds, coupled with her tremendous pedigree and great energy, will help us to develop some really exciting publishing and nurture the talents of the editorial team.’
