Cue the Concierge: Rashid Ali of The Langham, London

2015-02-02 15:45:51 未知

One of London’s most important hotels, the John Giles designed Langham was opened by the Prince of Wales in 1865. At that time it was the capital’s largest and most modern hotel, boasting the first hydraulic lifts in the country. Located on Regent Street, it is home to the Palm Court, famed for beginning the tradition of afternoon tea, and over the years, the Langham has hosted some of the most important figures of the times, from Mark Twain to Napoleon III, Oscar Wilde to Diana, Princess of Wales. The Langham was even the setting for some of Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories of detective Sherlock Holmes. With a motto of “service with poise” the Langham still offers Victorian-era charm. Refurbished back to its early days of grandeur it sets itself apart from the city’s other luxury hotel options thanks to its heritage. What better place then to give Culture+Travel tips on how to get the best out of the city it has served for generations.
