More than 150 lots of pop star Robbie Williams’ personal artifacts and memorabilia will be auctioned July 15 by Bonhams in London, led by a cream two-piece suit worn by Williams in the music video for the single “Radio” (estimate £5,000-7,000).
Williams, a former Take That boyband member, shot to fame in the 90s and has gone on to release countless number 1 hit songs throughout his successful solo career including the tracks “Millennium,” “Let Me Entertain You,” and “Angels.”
Highlights of the auction will include a set of handwritten lyrics for one of Williams’ bestselling singles “Let Me Entertain You” (estimate £4,000-6,000), a Take That MTV Video Music Award (estimate £2,000-3,000), and a multi-platinum award for the album “I've Been Expecting You” (estimate £2,500-3,000). Further lots include a bespoke pink three-piece suit worn by Williams at the London Palladium, a suit worn for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee concert at Buckingham Palace, and an MTV Europe Music Award (no estimates available at this time).
Though the singer has a checkered history of substance abuse and public feuds, the “Rock DJ” is actually quite the philanthropist. Alongside work with the charity Give it Sum that he set up in 2000, Williams has also organized Soccer Aid charity football matches and for over 10 years been a patron of The Donna Louise Children’s Hospice, a children’s charity based in Williams’ hometown of Stoke-on-Trent, to which proceeds of the sale will be donated.
The charity cares for and supports children up to age 20 who have life-limiting conditions and who often have shortened life expectancies. The sale has been titled “Doing it for the Kids,” taking its name from Williams’ 2000 hit duet with Australian star Nicole Kidman and for its charitable focus.
“It’s a privilege for me to be a patron of The Donna Louise Children’s Hospice, it makes a real difference to these children whose lives have been tragically limited,” stated Williams. “The sale gives a great opportunity for bidders to know their money will go to such a fantastic charity, whilst also taking home some of my most prized possessions that have been personal markers of my career so far.”
Said Katherine Schofield, Bonhams head of entertainment memorabilia, “Robbie Williams is one of the most successful British recording artists of all time. His many items will no doubt be adored for years to come by enthusiastic bidders at the upcoming sale and will be raising money for an excellent cause.”
The sale will take place at 3pm on July 15 and entry is by catalogue purchase only. The auction will also be streamed live via the Bonhams website.
