One Colour at Galleria Continua

When we muse upon the intriguing possibilities of colour in art, there are two conclusions that can be drawn: that black is the true absence of colour and that white is the visual result of all the colours combined. The purity of this contrast, in its capacity to explore the nature of colour and also the nature of binaries, inspires the upcoming show “One Colour,” in which all participating artists’ artworks are black, white or a careful and balanced combination of the two.The expressive power of black and white has long been documented—whether through photography, pencil sketches or black vinyl installations. These “non-colours” are evocative of a myriad of feelings and emotions; black and white as “colours” stand in a category of their own, and this category has perhaps even more expressive power than the vivid colours of the entire spectrum.Galleria Continua’s “One Colour” exhibition explores the vibrant diversity between artists from all over the world through the simplicity and minimalism of black and white. The austerity of these two colours contrasts with the kitschy and over-saturated shades of everyday life.Featuring artists from Belgium, Bulgaria, China, Cuba, France, India, Italy, South Africa and Spain, Galleria Continua will here further exercise its effort to promote renowned international art in China.
