From Titian to Goya

The exhibition, which is being held to celebrate the "Year of Spain in China", consists of 51 pieces from the Prado Museum's collection of paintings. The aim of the exhibition is to demonstrate the riches of the collection from the 16th Century to the beginning of the 19th Century. As part of the Year of Spain, the Prado Museum in Spain has culled a selection of works from the great Spanish masters and brought them over to China. Highlights include works from Gaudi, Goya and Greco in one of the most important exhibits to hit the capital this year. Chairman Hu Jintao and Spanish Emperor Juan Carlos visited the exhibition at June 26th.The exhibition will hold on 6.29-8.24 at National Art Museum of China.The oldest work to be sent is a Titian dated 1552-1553, the most recent is a painting by Goya - born 1746, died 1828. "Of the exhibitions that we've sent out of Spain, few have reached the average quality of this one," said Rodrigo Uria, president of the Prado. The paintings will go on show at the National Art Museum of Beijing between June and August and at Shanghai Museum between September and November, the ministry said.
