A scandal is rocking the Korean art world, after one of its shining stars was exposed as a fraud, The Independent reports. Shin Jeong-ah, 35, the youngest professor at Seoul's prestigious Dongguk University who also served as the head curator of the Sungkok Art Museum, rose to fame thanks in part to an illustrious resume, which listed a doctorate from Yale and a master's degree from Kansas State University. Further cementing her star status, Shin was recently hired to co-curate the 2008 Gwangju Biennale, one of the biggest fine art events in Asia-positioning her to be the biennale's youngest curator. But rumors have been swirling recently, and on July 9 Kansas State University issued a statement saying Shin had attended classes there but never graduated. Three days later, Yale issued a "terse" statement stating that Shin had never been registered with the university at all. So far, the Gwangju Biennale has revoked Shin's appointment, Dongguk University is considering firing her, and both the school and the biennale have said they plan to take legal action against Shin.
