Creek Art will hold the opening ceremony about “Lines-Chinese Abstract Art Exhibition”at 3 P.M. on September 5, 2007. Li Xu, the famous curator, planned this exhibition. The exhibition will collect more than 40 works which are created by 19 artists of Chinese mainland and overseas Chinese. The exhibition will display works like oil on canvas, Chinese ink painting, installation and video. The exhibition, with “line” as its academic theme, reflects the great achievements and characteristics of Chinese contemporary abstract art from the special angel of view. Line is one of the most important expression languages in Chinese traditional painting art. Western painting has an inclination to master light and shadow, perspective and anatomization, but Chinese-style line puts more emphasis on the conveyance of Oriental sensibility. The ways to draw lines have undergone numerous transformations in the history of Chinese ancient painting, then, it is generalized as “Eighteen ways to draw” and “CUN method” in portraits and landscape painting. Since painting and calligraphy are of same source- the special culture transmitting structure, the painting line of Chinese style has inmate relationship with the strokes of calligraphy.There are a lot of people who are good at taking advantage of lines among Chinese abstract artists. Nowadays, the old word refreshes its spirit in the new century and takes in colorful features and prosperous state; Furthermore, it has gradually revealed the strong national trait.
