About 50 oil paintings by eight women painters from all over the country are being exhibited at Guan Shanyue Art Museum until Aug. 12. As part of the 10th anniversary celebrations of the founding of Guan Shanyue Art Museum, the exhibition aims to showcase artistic experiments female painters have made with new painting techniques and concepts. Bao Lei from Chong-qing is good at creating a fairytale-like world by depicting everyday objects on canvas. Chen Xin from Zhejiang Province depicts the mental state of young women living in an increasingly open world, by portraying them as puzzled and helpless. Chen Yan, also from Zhejiang Province, touches on the theme of human relationship by painting human bodies in swimming pools. Huang Ying from Hunan Province combines female bodies with flowers or flying birds to create a fancy world of her own. With simple, lively colors and patterns, Li Dongxia from Jilin Province seeks to create meaningful forms in her works, which can often be seen in traditional Chinese paintings. Dong Xiaoli from Shandong Province loves to depict flowers and female figures with strong lines and thick colors in her works, which she calls an “outburst of life.” Xie Zhongxia from Jiangsu Province also enjoys painting flowers and female figures in her works, which create a poetic and carefree world with pure and simple colors.Lu Yuwei from Shanghai likes to paint young female figures on glasses, who look both familiar and strange to audiences.
