Artist Steven Campbell, 53, died after suffering a ruptured appendix. He was part of a group of artists called the New Glasgow Boys, who studied together at Glasgow School of Art. Works by Steven Campbell hang in several public collections. He first began working as a steelworker. He went to the Glasgow School of Art and later went to New York as a Fulbright scholar. He began working with installation and performance art. He was part of the New Glasgow Boys together with Peter Howson, Ken Currie and Adrian Wisniewski. He did not like being called part of this group and they never worked together. Steven Campbell was born in Glasgow in 1953. His highly original paintings evolve from an eclectic range of personal and literary sources creating narrative paintings, which provide surreal and trenchant comment on man in the modern world.
