Poland and Germany Argue Over Art

Poland and Germany were embroiled in a dispute about art removed from each country during World War II on 27th Aug, Agence France-Presse reported. Poland’s foreign minister, Anna Fotyga, said she had asked the culture ministry to compile a list of Polish works in German museums. Germany, meanwhile, was seeking the return of artifacts transported to Poland to avoid destruction during the war. Tono Eitel, the German negotiator, expressed frustration over Poland’s refusal to return pieces — including original scores by Mozart, texts by Goethe and a manuscript of the German national anthem — transported from Berlin to Krakow to protect them from Allied bombing. Poland considers everything found in its territory at the end of World War II to be its property.
