A massive wall painting exercise, considered a feat of contemporary fine art in China is complete and ready for display. The work in south China's Yunnan provice, focuses on the folk customs of the local Zhuang people, one of region's ethnic minorities. It's called, the "The Overview of the Zhuang Ethnic Group's Folk Customs." Sixteen painters from a local fine arts institute contributed to the work that measures 150 meters by two-meters. Captured among the images are the centuries-old traditions and customs of the ethnic minority: farming, embroidery, weaving, and wedding celebrations. Most prominently featured is the folk dance, which to this day, remains an almost daily activity for people of the Zhuang ethnic group. Each of the group's festivals has a special dance in its honour. Li Chengmiao, artist, said, "There are lots of Zhuang people in Yunnan. They have a lifestyle of their own. With the wall painting, we want to present the history and culture of the ancient ethnic group, such as its festivals and customs."Combining realism and romanticism, the artwork has won high praise from professional critics and local residents. The spectacle will add to the ethnic charm of the tourist resort in the town of Wenshan.
