For hundreds of years, Guangdong people have called Shiwan (a county in Guangdon's Foshan City, famous for its ceramics sculpture) Ceramics, Shiwan toys. A couple of craft masters, Yang and his wife Au, have created a kind of avant-garde stereo-landscape ceramics sculpture. Yang and Au were born in the 60s in Shiwan County and are at the peak of their creative careers. They now work in the Shiwan Ceramic Factory which concentrates scores of craft masters. But they have opted for a way of art with no tutors' instruction, namely Chinese landscape painting featuring poetic conceptions used in ceramic creations. Miniature carvings, a kind of Shiwan craft technique, mixed with western skills such as embossment, round sculptures and penetrated-sculptures, have been applied together with Chinese painting techniques of line compositions. Setting sun after rain, Yangs' first work, was been awarded first prize in Guangdong art and craft, and the most creative Shiwan craftwork. A series of works they will make have been booked by foreign collectors and Guangzhou Museum of Art before being completed. Yangs' works will be displayed in Guangzhou's Lingnan Hui from September 1 to 10. Admission is free.
