The people of Shanghai are eagerly embracing top treasures from the Forbidden City Museum in Beijing. Over 100 artifacts representing the most valuable and expensive from the museum are on display in Shanghai's Yuyuan Garden. The Yuyuan Garden, once a private garden, takes on a regal mantle as the works go on display. Treasures from the Imperial palace are drawing crowds of eager spectators. The centerpieces are two jade seals used by the Emperor Qianlong during the Qing Dynasty. The seals were chiseled to celebrate the 70th and 80th birthdays of Qilong. The 126 exhibits principally are artifacts from the middle of the three-century Qing Dynasty. They reflect the heyday of China's last feudal dynasty. The works are selected from the one-and-a-half-million in the collection at the Forbidden City Museum in Beijing. Chen Lihua, vice director of Forbidden City Museum, said, "The exhibition in Shanghai covers almost every genres of Chinese royal craftsmanship: cloisonne, porcelain, lacquer sculpture, gold and silver ware and ivory sculpture. These also are the most eminent categories in the collection of the Forbidden City Museum." The exhibition runs till December 10th.
