Shanghai is more than a high fashion, hurly-burley fast-paced, hedonist, modern metropolis. Something else happening in Shanghai right now: The Bamboo Culture Festival, in the Garden of Ancient Splendor, or Guyi Garden. The festival, part of the Shanghai Tourism Festival, showcases the city's charm in traditional art. With its theme, "Display and Inherit," this year's event showcases more than 40 kinds of bamboo; bamboo art work, like the iron painting version of the renowned Chinese piece "Riverside Scene at the Qingming Festival." Located in Nanxiang Town, a northwestern suburb of Shanghai, the garden is one of the oldest in the area. It finds its origins in the Ming Dynasty some 500 years ago.
