An exhibition showcasing various facets of creativity in Hong Kong opened at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on Monday, coinciding with the opening day of the annual session of the WIPO Assemblies. The exhibition, "HK Creativity - Intellectual Property in Hong Kong, China," has been organized jointly by WIPO and the Chinese government in cooperation with the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR). "The works featured in this exhibition bear witness to the creativity and originality of artists and designers in Hong Kong SAR," said WIPO Director General, Dr. Kamil Idris. "It is our mission at WIPO to foster creativity and to provide the means of protecting the fruits of creative expression," Idris added. At the opening ceremony, Stephen Selby, director of intellectual property of the Hong Kong SAR, said Hong Kong had been able to continue its participation in WIPO activities since its return to China 10 years ago. In accordance with the policy of "One China, Two Systems," Hong Kong representatives have had the privilege of joining the Chinese delegations annually at WIPO's General Assemblies and other specialized fora, and meanwhile Hong Kong has also on several occasions been host city to WIPO regional conferences and workshops, Selby said. It illustrates "how, with the support of the Chinese Central Government, Hong Kong, China has been able to benefit from the wise advice of WIPO experts and exchange knowledge with our Asian neighbors," he added. The exhibition features an exclusive combination of art works, designs, fashion items, and films that characterize Hong Kong's diversity and creative talent. The exhibition will be open to the public between Oct. 4 and Oct. 12.
