On the occasion of the Mid-Autumn festival – a day for family members and loved ones to congregate and enjoy the full moon –the "Permanent Peace" Ceramic Artwork Presentation Ceremony, with the theme of "carrying forward the Chinese culture, promoting international friendship," was held in Beijing, at the former residence of Soong Ching Ling (Madame Sun Yat-sen), the wife of the late Honorary President of China.During the ceremony, distinguished Chinese persons such as Wu Shaozu, former Minister of the State Sports General Administration, and Tang Wensheng, vice chairperson of the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, presented the exquisite ceramic artwork to ambassadors and embassy officials from 14 Olympics hosting countries.The ceramic artwork – with the Olympiad of ancient Greece painted on one side, the Great Wall of China on the other – symbolized both the entrance of the Olympic spirit into the world’s most populous country; as well as China’s preparation for the 2008 Olympic games. An official from the Greek embassy expressed her gratitude for the fine artwork; and gave her best wishes and confidence for the Olympic Games in August 2008, on behalf of all the distinguished foreign guests. Originally held in ancient Greece, the Olympic Games are now an international multi-sport event. The 2008 Beijing games will undoubtedly provide the ancient city with a wonderful opportunity to promote its unique culture and time-honored civilization. Now, with less than one year to go, the city is confident that Beijing will not only successfully host the Olympic Games for top athletes from all countries; but will also offer them a good opportunity to get to know China.After the ceremony, all the Chinese, and foreign guests and friends, enjoyed the full moon and a performance showcasing traditional Chinese culture.
