Vintage Cigarette Ad to Reside in Guangzhou Museum

A wall painted with a cigarette advertisement 82 years ago is to be moved to the Guangzhou Museum of Fine Arts. The wall ad featuring a then-famous movie star is regarded as the biggest outdoor painted ad from China's Republican Period during the early 20th century. To save the painting from damage, experts from the cultural property authorities have made a careful plan for the transportation. The wall will be packaged with foam materials and protective plywood. To prevent the ad from deteriorating, transportation will take place during the dry season. An estimated 80-year-old smoker recalled that this brand was very popular in Guangzhou with different style packages. After 1955 however private and state-owned factories amalgamated and the brand disappeared.
