The first prototype of the Archimedes Bridge, a submerged floating tunnel to be built in the Qiandao Lakein China's Zhejiang province, was unveiled in the Italian city of Rome on Monday. The construction of the bridge, a joint venture between China and Italy, will be a technical revolution in the bridge construction industry, said Dr. Elio Matacena, president of the Italian Archimedes Bridge Company. The prototype of the Archimedes Bridge will be used to plan for the construction of a 3,300 meters submerged floating tunnel in the Jintang Strait in Zhejiang Province, Dr. Matacena told Xinhua. The project also drew the attention of Susanto Sutoyo, Indonesia's Ambassador to Italy, who expected to make use of the new technology to connect some of the 17,000 islands in the Indonesian Archipelago.
