Austrian Electronic art has come as a highlight to the continuing Shanghai Arts Festival. The event with it's rather colossal title of: "Digital Art and Magic Moment; the Ars Electronica Special Exhibition" opened at the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum. Eight umbrellas arranged in a circle: open and close in rhythm to - what else? "Singin'in the Rain." Festival goers are drawn instantly as they come through the door. Close by, "Garden", a multimedia work is a magnet for kids. Projected lights above turn tiny shreds of flying paper into the colors of petals. The fragments, fall at the feet of visitors, who feel like they've entered a psychedelic garden. Twenty five different works by international artists, in addition to the Ars Electronica Futurelab, are exhibited over a 3000 square meter surface. All of these projects are being viewed for the first time in China. In array, they create an entirely unexpected and fascinating spectacle revealing the extent to which new technologies come to influence our lives, visibly and tangibly. The exhibition runs to November 10th.
