Bonhams’ autumn auctions of Fine Chinese Ceramics, Works of Art and Paintings, Fine Western and Jadeite Jewellery, and Fine Wristwatches in Hong Kong will be held on 26 and 27 November at the JW Marriott Hotel. The public preview will be held on 24 November (3:00 pm to 6:00 pm), 25 and 26 November from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm and 27 November from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. The highlight of the public preview will be the charity auction of a unique “Shanghai” tourbillon complication watch commissioned specially for the auction to be held on 24 November during the preview cocktail reception. Entire proceeds of the charity auction will go to the Jackie Chan Charitable Foundation, founded by international action movie star Jackie Chan. The Fine Chinese Ceramics, Works of Art and Paintings auction focuses this time on high-value consignments from private collections outside Hong Kong, reflecting the current preference among Chinese buyers to bid for high-quality art fresh to the Hong Kong market.A choice selection of 20th century paintings includes the ten-leaf album, “Ten Beauties”, by Lin Fengmian (estimate HK$1 – 1.5 million), and a thirteen-leaf album, “Figures” by Fan Zeng (estimate HK$1 - 1.5 million). Sculpture is represented by two wood carvings by one of Taiwan’s most famous artist/sculptors, Zhu Ming; the more expensive lot is a figure from his “Taiji” series (estimate HK$400,000 - 600,000). Commenting on the paintings she has sourced in America and Asia for this auction, Bonhams’ specialist Meilin Wang said: “This is a fine representative group of those artists who have consistently proved popular at auction among a wide range of international buyers. We expect some strong interest from Taiwan, China and Singapore for the best works by Zhang Daqian, Wu Guanzhong and Fan Zeng.
