There are unwritten rules about Chinese art world that new artist is generally nominated by the critic. In other words, the artistic works is judged by the critic. Just like the cattle grazing for producing the beef, in the food chain of art consumption artists are in a position of weakness. If we say artistic works is a kind of merchandise, it is reasonable to arrange like this. Consumer (collector) is the terminal, just like the God. Critic is sent to select us by God. But sometimes there is another parlance of this game.Liu Hong and I are teaching in the same school, so I meet her on campus. Sometimes, I am along with several girls while she is with some boys. It seems to be a selection and it is rational. We are with a reassuring smile when we meet. Therefore, a sobering thought struck us: she nominates male painter while I nominate the female and make a competition between them. Led by the two teachers, the conception of this exhibition comes out.Since we are painter, not critic, the selection standard is different. What we care is not the concept of the painting, the value of philosophy and society. In fact, we do not know much about it. Because of our favor, we demand the works a complexity and uniqueness of the skill. For example, Liu Min and Li Guyu only paint by acrylic resin. They are students of artist Wang Chengyun who have been learned in Germany. They have a secret recipe of controlling the water. Their works have not only the massiness and abundance of the painting, but also deposited veins. Perhaps Zeng Pu is an exception. He has the same ability of controlling the oil of turpentine and he is very sensitive with character that the details in his paintings are fascinating. Wang Yuxin combines exquisite tincture, brushes which look like ink and wash painting and artful imagination together and paints a bit evil but attractive grown-up fairy tale. Li Gang paints the cattle head which shines like a jade and contains complex texture inside.No enumerating the works of new artist and hew to the rule, let’s give the comment power to the critic. What we are doing is just to show their works. I am so appreciate of Li Mowei and An Qi. As an artist Miss An contributed a lot to the exhibition.
