More and more Chinese oil paintings are moving into the spotlight at world-class auctions. These works are gaining attention among critics for their artful melding of typically Chinese subjects with Western painting techniques. Wang Keju is among the driving forces behind the current trend. He presented his latest collection on Saturday. Entitled "Transforming Landscape:" the exhibits express the artist's insight into the dynamics of landscape painting. With bold application of color, the paintings bring to life the grandeur of scenic China. Wang narrowed his painting focus to landscape about ten years ago. He traveled most of the country to collect his inspiration. Now, he's the artistic director of the Xu Beihong School at China's Renmin University. The artist will take his "Landscape" series to the 2008 Venice Art Bi-ennial. His solo exhibition at Beijing's National Museum of Fine Arts runs until Saturday.
