'Illusion – Lu Cheng Solo Exhibition' is Lu Cheng's first ever solo show, SHiNE Art Space will be showing twelve works from Lu Cheng's 2007 collection which best represents her style and artistic language. Lu Cheng is one of the very few young Chinese contemporary artists who is dedicated to abstract paintings. Her work is based on variations of a set of motifs to form an image in the painting. In her professor Mr Zhu Xiaohe's critical essay he mentioned: "It is not only the motifs and their variations make her work distinct, but also how she juxtaposes those motifs, using various colours to form different basic shapes to create a carefully structured picture." Lu Cheng uses basic shapes such as squares and rectangles as her core motif to create a picture which shows infinite perspective which lures the audience to study the picture in more depth and to explore different ways of looking at her works. Lu Cheng was born in 1979 in Chongqing, China. She studied Design in the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute from 2002 to 2005 and gained a masters degree. Lu Cheng has been participating in group shows in both China and abroad since 2003. This exhibition will take place from the 15th December 2007 through to 14th January 2008 SHiNE Art Space .
