An exhibition of work by pop art icon Andy Warhol opens at the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) in Brisbane on Saturday, in Australia's first major retrospective of his work. The exhibition marks 20 years since the artist's death in 1987 and brings together more than 300 works from the 1950s on, including Warhol paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, photographs and films. Some of Warhol's best known works will be on display, including portraits of Marilyn Monroe, Jackie Onassis, Mao Zedong and Elvis Presley, as well as his famous Campbell's soup canvas.Queensland Art Gallery director Tony Ellwood said the exhibition was the result of a strong collaborative partnership with The Andy Warhol Museum. "Andy Warhol includes the largest loan from The Andy Warhol Museum, the National Gallery of Australia's Warhol holdings, plus loans from the National Gallery of Victoria, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo and private collectors," Mr Ellwood said. The exhibition will run from December 8 to March 30.
