2007-12-14 10:53:26 未知

Shanghai, probably the most cosmopolitan city on the Chinese mainland. The city is moving quickly to preserve its ancient treasures in these times of rapid change. City planning regulations have been enacted, in Shanghai providing new measures for the protection of historic roads. There are 144 roads encompassed in the new regulations. The roads are spotted around 12 historical sites in the center of Shanghai. Hengshan Road and Yuyuan Road are at the top of the list. The regulations stipulate the roads may not be widened, reconstructed or extended. But that's not the end. There are also specific requirements pertaining to colors and heights of structures along the roads. A pilot project is to be carried out on Wukang Road. Experts say, the city planning should try to achieve a balance between new construction and historical sites. Historical sites should be kept intact. The newly released regulation reflects the government's determination to preserve its architectural treasures and maintain its links with the past.
