Jerry Uelsmann's photo works often bring us into a maze of visual thinking. When familiar objects are molded into images beyond our experience, black and white can create a rich world, making us admire his extraordinary imagination. As one of the most important surrealistic photographers of the 20th century, Uelsmann's achievements were made entirely in the darkroom. With sophisticated techniques, he created his surreal photographs in a series of steps through more than one projector, masking, shading, projecting and exposing different areas of the photosensitive paper. The perfect degree of harmony is still treasured today, an era boasting developed computer technology.Jerry Uelsmann has not only superb skills, but also extraordinary imagination. His "post-visualization" idea changes the traditional photographic aesthetic and showing us that photography is more than just a click of shutter. The exhibition opens at Guangdong Museum of Art, Hall 5,9 on 2008-01-25~2008-02-24.
