Weng clears the traces of humans on the pictures and emphatically stresses the features of objects in the space. Thanks to the absence of human excitement or rather hullabaloo, the images fully represent the objectivity of objects, rendering the images so tranquil that they sometimes appear to be still photographs. The calm stance, position and approach make the images serene and peaceful. Televisions are coming out of the silent and still images, and are standing out in the quietness of the space, and have in so doing instantly grabbed people’s eyeballs. television itself has a special radiation and that TV has been painted to glow unusually; or in other words, TV releases so glaring a light that although proportionally small in dimension on the picture it has established a sharp contrast between itself and the rest of the objects as a whole, as well as between itself and the atmosphere enshrouding the other objects. The light of TV always implies fierceness, hullabaloo, narration and chatter. Conversely, the objects outside the confines of the TV are always abnormally quiet, immersed in their inherence and without the least hint of uproar. Or in other words, they do not glow themselves but are enlightened by and showered in the light of the TV and therefore made more silent and mute. We may also state that thanks to the muteness of the space in the room and of the objects of the room, the radiation of the TV has been heightened. So, the light of the television is not only the center of the image, it is also what places the television into the center of the space. The light of TV has become a new belief, or you may say, a new dominion which, although not a gigantic black iron shackle, although not a violent political apparition, is nonetheless a new ruling apparatus, a new spell that reins the lives of thousands. It is not politically ideological but it is political. It is the magic of the light of this machine that Weng wishes to express through the canvas. He is putting into the spotlight both the reigning characteristics of television and the features of belief in today’s atheistic society.
