The Largest-ever Donation to Support Contemporary Art in China

Shanghai, 13 January 2008 – Bank Sarasin & Co. Ltd (“Bank Sarasin”) and the Shanghai Art Museum today jointly announced that Bank Sarasin has become an “Associate Partner” of the 7th – 11th Shanghai Biennales, beginning in 2008 and concluding with the 2016 Biennale. The partnership marks the largest donation ever made to support contemporary art in China.The Shanghai Biennale, organized by Shanghai Art Museum, is the most international Biennale in Asia and has received wide-spread recognition throughout the international arts community since its inception over a decade ago. It is considered the most renowned Biennale in Asia.The Associate Partnership Agreement was signed at a ceremony held today at Shanghai Art Museum, with Mr Fidelis Goetz, Bank Sarasin Head, Division International, Mr FANG Zengxian, Curator of Shanghai Art Museum and Mr LIU Wenguo, Deputy Director General, Vice General Director of the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Cultural Radio Film and TV, Mr Li Lei, Executive Curator of Shanghai Art Museum. The announcement was followed by a Gala Dinner. Other official guests included Ms Catherine KWAI, Founder and Managing Director of Kwai Fung Hin Art Gallery; Ms Cissy PAO, Chairman of the Board of Governors of Hong Kong Arts Centre; Mr YAO Rong Quan, Executive Chairman of the Shanghai-Hongkong Cultural Exchange Association; and Mrs Enid YIP, Vice Chairman of Bank Sarasin-Rabo (Asia) Ltd.Headquartered in Switzerland with offices in Europe, the Middle East and Asia, Bank Sarasin values art as challenging views and opinions, and supporting ideas that lead to innovative products and services for our clients.
