Michael Liltman was born in New York City. He currently lives in New York half of the year and in Canton, China the other half of the year. Michael received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Brooklyn College in 1964 and a Masters of Science Degree from Long Island University in 1969. He attended the Pratt Institute, Masters in Fine Arts program from 1973 to 1975. He is a photographer and painter with an interest in video, sculpture and mixed media. A huge private collection has been amazed over the years and is still developing at an exceptional. Michael theorizes that art emerges from certain expressive people in an unmanageable force. Selling the products as a means to maintain the artist's lifestyle often leads to compromises. Business forces the artist into reproducing a commercial and easily definable style. Liltman prefers to alter his style as often as he is inspired to do so. Unencumbered by the need to support himself and his family he is free to explore art in its purist form. Experimentation in art forms developed in a manner similar to the expansion of the universe. Michael has an intuitive feeling that creations are the statements of the quality of one's existence. He postulates that inspiration arises from experiences and preparation. The arrival of an inspiration on a brain wave, the conceptualization of it and the completion of the project are some of the most satisfying human endeavors. Michael Liltman's present works are complicated and careful observation will allow you to project your own meaning onto the details of his works.
