An exhibition featuring the works of two artists from Taiwan is the first exchange of artworks between a prominent local gallery and museum. The "Twin Peaks" exhibition at the Zhu Qizhan Art Museum opens on March 2-15 and will display the works of modern artists Huang Chengyuan and Peter Lee.It is the first time the museum and King Space, a gallery in Shanghai featuring artists from Taiwan, have collaborated on an exhibition. The gallery and the museum are planning further exhibitions of artists from Taiwan, which will hopefully introduce more great art to Shanghai.Huang's exhibit called "Greedy, Lingering, Remains" is a collection of 16 acrylic paintings. Using simple lines, looming figures and contrasting color and space, Huang creates emotive artworks."I was seized at first sight by Huang's paintings," said the museum's curatorial director Mai Feng. "Part of the figure's face, hands, or legs appear vague or missing in his paintings."But you can still feel the movement and motion of the character."Emotion is the prime element in Huang's creations. The title, "Greedy, Lingering, Remains," refers not only to the emotions in his paintings but also to his creative process. Huang said "Greedy" suggests his non-stop desire for creation, while "Lingering" describes his passion and drive to create. Finally, "Remains" refers to the feeling he gets after finishing a painting.Lee's exhibit of 15 installation works is called "Reason and Sensation."It includes a series called "Order," which focuses on the relationship between reason and sensation.Lee uses a range of materials to create pieces that some viewers claim look like kites because of their tail-like features that trail down from the works.
