Thirty-six priceless paintings from thirty-three artists will go under the hammer later this month in Hong Kong. On Sunday, a pre-auction exhibit featuring eight of the treasured works opened in Shanghai. The eight pieces on display are by celebrated artists made in different phases of their careers, including Lin Fengmian, Qi Baishi and Li Keran. This one was painted by Fu Baoshi in 1943. It reflects the painter's state of mind, that is, tranquil solitude.A piece by Emperor Huizong from the Song Dynasty nearly a thousand years ago has been causing quite a stir. Although the original painting didn't make it into the show, it is expected to fetch around eighty million Hong Kong dollars at auction. And its all for a good cause, organizers say a portion of the proceeds from the auction will be donated to poor children with a talent for arts.
