14th - 18th May: AAA TALKS FOR ART HK 08 - HK Conversations HENRY TANG, SIR DAVID TANG, RONALD ARCULLI, MONIQUE BURGER, ELAINE NG ...Asia Art Archive presents Hong Kong Conversations, a series of talks by a group of renowned collectors, artists and art experts for international art fair, ART HK 08, from 15-18 May 200815th May, 4-5 pm: Hong Kong - Beijing Return: A conversation between artists Chow Chun-fai and Lam Tung Pang. 15th May, 6-7 pm: Informed Taste: A conversation between collector Monique Burger and curator Tobias Berger. 16th May, 6-7pm: Cultural Investment: A conversation between Henry Tang the Chief Secretary of the HK Government, Ronald Arculli and Sir David Tang. 18th May, 3-4pm: Space Exploration: A conversation between Elaine Ng and Zhang Wei. 17th May: MAJOR MUSEUM CONFERENCEAsia Art Archive and Department of Cultural and Religious Studies, The Chinese University of Hong Kong present Shifting Sites: Cultural Desire and the Museum, a one day conference held as a satellite event of ART HK 08 and supported by the Home Affairs Bureau, HKSAR Government.Major resources are being allocated by governments to building cultural facilities – think Abu Dhabi and Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Cultural District. Today, art and cultural facilities are seen as necessary components of a world-class city; a desire reiterated throughout cities in Asia. Can the one-stop cultural district really emulate the vibrancy of art scenes in cities like London and NY? And the idea of a museum – this is a recent construct in Asia – so what should today’s museum look like? Eight internationally renowned speakers will come to Hong Kong to address these issues.Speakers include Sheena Wagstaff, Chief Curator,Tate Modern, London; Charles Merewether, Artistic Director & Curator, 2006 Biennale of Sydney; Yuko Hasegawa, Chief Curator, Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo; David Elliott, Independent curator and writer and Founding Director, Mori Art Museum; Su Zhen Xie, Executive Director of Museum of China Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing.May - July: COMMUNITY PROJECT – WHAT IS YOUR DREAM MUSEUM?A specially designed AAA Museum Dream Card will be distributed to schools, universities, art organizations, and interested parties around Hong Kong, to collect peoples’ responses and imagination of their very own museum. They can submit the dream cards through the Dream Museum website, or by post.A museum with wings, a museum without walls, an underwater museum, a museum that folds in to your pocket …Museums today are changing. They are no longer just about collecting and displaying objects. They are no longer sacred or exclusive. Museums today are re-thinking what, how, where and why?How can today’s museums inspire and delight you? Share with us your dreams.14th - 18th May: AAA BOOTH AT ART HK 08AAA will set a sponsored booth at ART HK 08, where architects, artists and designers will be present to visualize some of the responses received from What is Your Dream Museum? through drawings on paper and the booth's walls. Responses and renderings will be displayed during the course of the fair on the walls of the booth, along with a selection of material on museums from AAA’s collection.
