Qingdao Artists Plans to Create a Hundred-meter Painting Scroll for Olympics

Qingdao will host the 2008 Olympic sailing competitions. One native painter wants to welcome the events. Wang Xinxun plans to create a hundred-meter painting scroll.This hundred-meter scroll is called "Shanhesong", or "Hymn to Nature". The painting depicts thousands of kilometers of landscapes representative of China. It's the artist's gift to the Olympic Games.The painting is divided into 4 scrolls, reflecting the four seasons. The painter has had the chance to see most of the areas depicted. It took him a year to collect all the necessary pictures and still life's, and another year to paint his masterpiece.For the better understanding of viewers from 5 continents, Wang Xinxun abandoned the traditional painting style. He created a blend of Eastern and Western styles. 18 meters of this hundred-meters "Hymn to Nature" are still to be painted. Once the painting is finished, around mid-June, it will be given by the artist himself to the Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee.
