A hundred sculptures on the Olympic theme are set to go up around the Olympic Games Center and at major performance venues in Beijing. Last week a launch ceremony was held at the National Center for the Performing Arts.The one hundred pieces are chosen from a worldwide competition that began more than three years ago. It attracted dozens of artists worldwide. Half the pieces are the creations of foreign sculptors. The Olympic sculptures aim to promote Beijing and the upcoming SummerOlympics among an international audience. So far the first group of sculptures have been housed in the National Center for the Performing Arts. The installation work is schedule for completion in later May.
