Wu Guanzhong Donated 66 Pieces of His Artworks to SH Art Museum

The well-known artist Wu Guanzhong donated the other 66 pieces of his delicate artworks to Shanghai Art Museum after donated 6 pieces of presentive artworks there on 2005. On 29th April, the donation agreement was assigned between Wu Guanzhong and Li Lei,the director of Shanghai Art Museum at Wu’s. Shui Tianzhong,the researcher of China Art Research Institution , Wang Huaiqing a famous contemporary artist and Wu Guanzhong’s relatives and friends witnessed this meaningful moment.The donation includes 30 canvas and 36 ink-wash paintings that the master created from 1963 to 2003.Which includes the oil painting,‘Lu Xun’s Country’and ‘the Lions’ Forest’and the other 36 pieces of artworks.Wu Guanzhong donated the most artworks this time in his whole life. Moreover, this donation is the most systemic. Wu Guanzhong donated 72 pieces to Shanghai Art Museum in total. Therefore, Shanghai Art Museum is the most important organization where collects Wu Guanzhong’s works the most.When asked why he donated so many works to our country, Wu Guanzhong told us that, He studied in France in his early age and hold exhibitions in Tokyo, Paris and London. However his exhibitions didn’t cast great influence overseas, because both France and America prefer to recommend the native artists and discriminate the foreign artists. He felt depressed at that time. Mr.Wu thought, our country needs our own national art and my works belongs to our national museum. Although he knew the auction profit was considerable, I decided to donate his works to our country.Li Lei said the museum would open a special hall to permanently display the collection. It is now tentatively planned for the third floor.
