Picasso Museum in Malaga Presents Restored Books Made by the Artist

Nine books belonging to the Picasso Museum Collection in Malaga and that tell the original graphic works of art of the artist have recuperated their splendor after being restored by the Instituto Andaluz de Patrimonio Histórico (Andalusian Historic Heritage Institute). The most notable alterations these books showed were the wrongful use and manipulation of them according to the restorer from the institute, Eulalia Bellón.Rosa Torres, cultura counselor, presented the books today. This intervention frames the first phase of the conservation of the documents of the Picasso Museum in Malaga. Overal, the intervention was made on 19 volumes, all with original works of art made by Picasso.The Project establishes an intervention plan for these documents, which implies the technical support for the prevention and control of the state of conservation of the works of art and the elaboration of diagnosis and application of treatments.In December of 2006, a technical team from the Centro de Intervención at IAPH went to the Picasso Museum to evaluate the state of conservation of these important books. A collection composed of 19 volumes was analyzed by the technicians and a documents was elaborated to prevent further damage to the books.The Museo Picasso Málaga is run by the Fundación Museo Picasso de Málaga and the Fundación Paul, Christine y Bernard Ruiz-Picasso. Two foundations were created, each with its own Board of Trustees, and together they promote and support the Museum in accordance with the mission outlined by the founding donors. The Fundación Paul, Christine y Bernard Ruiz-Picasso is the owner of the Collection, whereas the Fundación Museo Picasso de Málaga owns the group of buildings that house it. As was initially agreed by the donors, the two Foundations are responsible for the conservation, exhibition, study and diffusion of the Collection.Located in a three-story building, the Library and Document Center is intended for researchers and students ineterested in the life and work of Picasso.Among other services, there is a reading room, an on-line catalogue and facilities for laptops with Internet connection. The Library's holdings include the Bernardo Sofovich Collection (800 titles on Picasso), the Fondo de Arte Contemporáneo Español (12.000 documents) and the Archivo Temboury (formed by the correspondence maintained between Juan Temboury and Jaime Sabartés from 1953 to 1964) and other works which can be consulted on-line.
