Jérôme Sans, Center Director of Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, announces the departure of Colin Chinnery, UCCA Deputy director & Chief Curator. From the very beginning and up to the current phase, Colin Chinnery has been instrumental in shaping UCCA – one of the first non profit, comprehensive art centers in China. While at UCCA, Colin Chinnery brought together a highly professional artistic team and took charge of building a successful program of exhibitions, educational activities and special events. His decision to leave UCCA is based on a desire to evolve towards an independent curatorial career. "The next step of my career in the art world is to work closely with artists and institutions as an independent curator and as an artist" said Colin Chinnery. "My experience at UCCA will remain a very valuable asset for these future plans."Current UCCA curator Guo Xiaoyan has been appointed as the new Chief Curator. Her appointment will play a significant role in how UCCA develops into becoming an echo chamber of contemporary creation in China. Guo Xiaoyan has been working at UCCA since September 2007. Before joining UCCA, Guo Xiaoyan founded the Upriver Gallery in Chengdu—the first private gallery started in China—and has curated numerous shows including most of the Guanzhou Triennial’s. She also participated in building the collection of the Guandong Art museum. In addition, Guo Xiaoyan has also had the opportunity to work abroad as an assistant curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Lyon, as part of the "Year of China" in France in 2004."We are extremely grateful for the work accomplished by Colin and his significant contribution to UCCA," said Jérôme Sans. "Thanks to her extensive knowledge and experience with both Chinese artists and the contemporary art scene, Guo Xiaoyan, who has been a fantastic asset for UCCA since our inauguration, will play a key role in developing a unique program with China at its heart and the dialogue with the world as its operating model."UCCA’s dedication to providing a place to showcase the latest in contemporary creation and a new generation of Chinese artists continues and is meant to increase with a series of new commissions from Chinese artists in the coming months.UCCA is a non profit, comprehensive art center founded in Beijing by collectors Guy and Myriam Ullens in November 2007. UCCA presents exhibitions of established and emerging artists and develops a trusted platform to share knowledge through education and research..
