Inspired by this year's Olympic theme of "One World, One Dream" artists from Hong Kong and Macao are taking an artistic perspective on the Olympic spirit. The 2008 Hong Kong and Macao Visual Arts Exhibition opened Monday at the Beijing World Art Museum. The exhibition creates a dialogue between arts and the multi-cultural society.
Over seventy items are on display - paintings, photographs, sculpture, installation art, and multi-media production. All aim to recreate different perspectives on life among people in the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions.
Artists are young and old. Their various backgrounds and experiences help to create a panoramic view of two indispensable elements of Chinese culture - the cultures of Hong Kong and Macao.
Kwok Mang Ho, a Hong Kong artist performing under the nickname of Frog King, talks about his favorite piece.
Compared to the more avant garde arts presented by Hong Kong artists, Macao's artists take a more conventional approach. Their style and talent cannot be denied.
Heidi Ho, director of the Macao's Cultural Affairs Bureau, notes that the Macao's Historical Center was inaugurated into the World Heritage List in 2005. That has helped Macao to gain much recognition from around the world for the diversity of its cultures. She hopes people in Beijing will learn to appreciate the work by Macao artists. The works are tokens of best wishes and support for the Beijing Olympic Games.
