Moments depicting glory, happiness and defeat captured by photographers during previous Olympic Games are on display in Beijing. The photo exhibition, called "Olympic Spirits: Olympics Through the Lens of European Photographers", aims to encapsulate the Olympic Spirit as expressed by European athletes, across time.
The body of work, taken by various European photographers from the early days of the 20th century to the present, portrays personalities and moments linked to past Olympic Games.
Ranging from abundant joy and happiness to utter disappointment and lost dreams, the pictures capture movements in time and space.
Each still frame tells a story. There's movement visible in the sportsman's face, his concentration on the next move, and an effort to control his emotions and inner thoughts. The heartfelt aspiration of the athlete - rings true.
