A new exhibition highlighting six leading Indian contemporary artists has opened in London and Newcastle in England. 'Out of India' celebrates a market that's been developing for the past ten years. The show underlines the pool of Indian talent and the growing interest in their work in Britain.
Six artists have been handpicked to be part of the exhibition 'Out Of India'. The contemporary Indian art market has been growing and developing over the past three years, as it offers something different from western art.
Anna Borlinghaus, Co-Curator, said, "A lot of people wouldn't expect what they seeing of the contemporary art they would expect something a bit more traditional, and then it's a huge market that hasn't been opened to the west, the first buyers came I think came mostly from India itself, and only since big collectors, international western collectors bought Indian art, it's been opened up to the whole world market or art, and I think that's what's interesting about it to see how differently it's developed and how coincides or is different it is from the market in the west".
Today's Indian artists are using a blend of tradition and modern techniques to create a new and fresh style.
With India's growing economy, demand for contemporary art is on the rise. 'Out of India' highlights this trend which is moving west, as collectors are becoming more interested in India's talent.
