Competitive Games In and Outside the Forbidden City" is one of many presentations at Beijing's Capital Museum. From July 23 to 31, another four exhibitions are set to open, one after another.
The four exhibitions are: "Selected Beijing Treasures", "Chinese Memory - 5000 Years Culture", "Civilizations Along the Yangtze River" and "Fair Play - Ancient Greek Competitive Spirit". The exhibits are authentic national treasures. Most are making their first appearance in Beijing.
The display of "Selected Beijing Treasures" features seven categories of porcelain, Buddhist statues, jade, gold and silver vessels, carvings, painting and calligraphy, and furniture. The exhibits reveal the distinctive history and cultures of Beijing traced back to the Liao Dynasty more than 1000 years ago.
55 museums from 26 Chinese provinces and cities donated their most valuable collections for the "Chinese Memory" exhibition. 169 national relics on show blaze the trail, marking the progressive development of the nation.
"Civilizations Along the Yangtze River", is a joint presentation by 15 Chinese museums. The exhibition is the first of its kind on the theme. Some 200 representative relics are on display, including the largest cooking vessel ever found - called the "Yan".
There's a mirror exhibition to "Competitive Games In and Outside the Forbidden City." Nearby is a presentation of sports relics from Greece - the land that gave birth to the Olympic Games.
