Back in Beijing, an installation art exhibit opened in the popular Sanlitun area on Sunday night. "Star Trip" tells the story of a girl maturing into a woman, a caterpillar transforming into a butterfly.
The 12 pieces, including pictures, animation and video, are set against the dreamlike background of the New Village Mall.
The exhibition explores women's eternal dream of stopping time and living in a state of eternal youth.
The exhibition is a collective effort between the White Collar clothing company and artist Joseph Hilton McConnico. The artist says Chinese history and civilization are the sources of inspiration for the current exhibition.
McConnico is an American-born designer and artist who has lived and worked in Paris since 1965. After working in fashion for designers like Ted Lapidus and Yves St. Laurent, he became a set designer and art director working on more than 20 films, including the cult classic "Diva". His stage designs for La Lune Dans Le Caniveau won him a Cesar Awards.
McConnico's pieces are part of the permanent collection in a number of museums worldwide.
