Museums from 27 Chinese provinces are pulling together for a number of special exhibits that will run the length of the Olympic Games.
Beijing's Capital Museum has combined six halls of local cultural relics into one room: the Beijing Cultural Treasures exhibition.
The exhibition traces the chronological order of the Liao, Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. These dynasties span a thousand years covering the most glorious days in the history of Beijing. The periods left an abundance of treasures, including porcelain, jade, silver, Buddhist figures, ivory carving, calligraphy and furniture.
285 objects in total are on show, most of which are being displayed publicly for the very first time.
In the new hall of the Chinese Museum of Science and Technology, another exhibition opened on Monday morning. Miracles of Heaven - Ancient Chinese Technology and Civilization is divided into four sections: silk dying, bronze foundry, printing technology and porcelain making.
The ancient technology is the work of entrepreneurial people who have displayed wisdom and a pioneering spirit during the course of history.
Some simulated scenes reveal the life and production techniques of Chinese people in ancient times.
The new hall of the Chinese Museum of Science and Technology is a sprawling 48-thousand square meter site at the center of the National Olympic Park.
Provincial museums have chipped in to boost the current array of exhibitions in Beijing. The Liaoning provincial museum has loaned 19 of its treasures, including a sutra scroll, calligraphy works and paintings.
Most of the exhibitions will run until October.
