Chinese Sale AT Christie's

Christie’s is selling a large collection of Chinese antiques from the Ping Y. Tai Foundation in two sales: on Sept. 17 in New York and Dec. 2 and 3 in Hong Kong. Mrs. Tai was married to Jun Tsei Tai, who was, until his death in 1992, a prominent Asian-art dealer in the United States. His Chinese classical paintings, ceramics and works of art range from the Shang dynasty (roughly 1600 B.C. to 1100 B.C.) through the 20th century.
Among the most elegant ceramics is a tall white baluster-shaped vase from the early Ming dynasty. It has a lustrous nearly transparent glaze, called “sweet white,” first seen on Imperial porcelains in the Yongle reign (1403-1425).
The ceramics go on view on Sept. 12 in New York with highlights from the December sales, including more than 100 Chinese classical paintings.
