As one of the most important art biennale in Asia, the 7th Shanghai Biennale will open on 8 Sep, 2008 in Shanghai Art Museum.
Since its inauguration, the Shanghai Biennale has repeatedly taken the city itself and its urban conditions as a starting point for its artistic explorations. In line with this inner logic, so comes the “TRANSLOCALMOTION” that examines the dynamic urban space and inhabitants against the background of urbanization. It reflects on the issues of migration, as well as the social, economic, and cultural implications of urbanization. The curatorial team of the 2008 edition--Zhang Qing, Julian Heynen and Henk Slager---proposes to focus on one of the most import cornerstones of urban design: the public square.
About 61 artists (artist groups) from 21 countries and regions will take part in the event. Yue Mingjun, Mike Kelly and Lonnie Van Brummelen & Siebren De Haan are three selected artists (artist groups) who will hold their “keynote” statement during this biennale on the second floor at Shanghai Art Museum. Other two art works spotlight are “ project” and “context”.
The exhibition opens to the public from September 9 to November 16.
