Works by Arshile Gorkey, Chaim Soutine, Hans Hofmann, Marc Chagall, Emil Nolde and Lyonel Feininger were stolen from a house in Encino.
Police are searching for an art thief that made off with millions of dollars worth of paintings from inside an Encino home, including works by Marc Chagall and Diego Rivera, reported KTLA today.
On August 23, 2008, a residential burglary occurred, during daylight hours, at a home in the Encino area of Los Angeles. The burglar removed a valuable art collection from the walls of the home, which included nine original paintings by Marc Chagall, Hans Hofmann, Chaim Soutine, Diego Rivera, Arshile Gorky, Emil Nolde, Lyonel Feininger, and Kess van Dongen.
"Nine original paintings were taken from that residence," Officer Julianne Sohn of the LAPD's Media Relations Section told ABC7.
Detective Donald Hrycyk said the thief or thieves will likely find the artworks difficult to sell as they have all been reported stolen in New York's Art Loss Register, as well as FBI and Interpol stolen art files.
Anyone with information on the burglary was asked to call Detectives Donald Hrycyk or Stephanie Lazarus from the Los Angeles Police Department's Art Theft Detail at (213) 485-2524 .
