Beijing is getting a chance to view art from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. A show has just opened, with some of the most prominent works by top DPRK artists.
Nearly 60 paintings are featured in the "Fine Arts Exhibition of DPRK" in downtown Beijing. They represent the latest works of the top artists in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, which turns 60 this year.
Most of the works belong to the school of thematic painting, which focuses on revolutionary subjects.
They are intended to celebrate the state's accomplishments and express appreciation for its citizens.
Choe Jong Chol, the official of DPRK Ministry of Culture, said, "The paintings on display are the most representative of the fine art world of the DPRK, where the ruling approach is realism. The artists are dedicated to the vivid portrayal of the daily life of common people."
And in addition to the socialist realist depictions, there are traditional studies of nature and everyday life. They provide a panorama of the daily existence of ordinary people as well as the landscape of the country.
The Beijing show runs through next Wednesday.
